چکیده

These proposed self-powered, autonomously operating systems combines a number of microand nanotechnologies including biosensors, microfluidics, drug delivery, energy harvesters with living animal and will enable online monitoring of blood metabolites such as uric acid and beta-hydroxybutyrate in birds. We will measure the bird’s physiological status and store those data on flash for transmission to a base station whenever it’s in range. In the future, we will also develop a series of microfabricated drug-delivery elements that will enable us not only monitor the physiological state, but also manipulate it.

Real-time Biosensor System for Biophysical Monitoring of Birds

Since a bird’s metabolic rates are finely tuned to their environments, research on avian systems plays an important role in investigation of ecology. Here, for the first time, we have developed a miniature needle-type enzyme sensor system suitable for continuous real-time amperometric in-vivo monitoring of uric acid levels in birds. In addition to extensive characterization of the sensor system...

Lab-on-a-Bird: Biophysical Monitoring of Flying Birds

The metabolism of birds is finely tuned to their activities and environments, and thus research on avian systems can play an important role in understanding organismal responses to environmental changes. At present, however, the physiological monitoring of bird metabolism is limited by the inability to take real-time measurements of key metabolites during flight. In this study, we present an im...

Low Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring

In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...

Duration and Frequency of Shedding of Influenza Virus H9N2 Subtype by Infected Birds based on an Experimental Study

Background & Aims: The H9N2 avian influenza subtype is endemic in many parts of Iran and has the ability to transmit from bird to human. In the present study, the risk of this subtype for humans was assessed by determination of the viral titer and shedding time in bird. Method: The experiment was done on fifteen male budgerigars at 4 months of age. The birds w...
